Penile Prosthesis

Penile implant surgery is a life-changing surgery that restores a man’s confidence and sexual well-being.

What is a Penile Prosthesis?

A penile prosthesis, or implant, is a viable option for men when other treatments for erectile dysfunction or Peyronie’s disease have been unsuccessful. In fact, many men are choosing penile prosthesis as a first line treatment for ED, skipping medications and other therapies in favor of this life-changing surgery. Penile implants have been in use for more than three decades and new designs and surgical techniques have made implant surgery even more successful for patients.

How Does a Penile Prosthesis Work?

There are two main types of penile implants: inflatable and semi-rigid. The inflatable implant is the most common and offers many benefits.

Penile implants are quickly becoming an option of choice for men living with the effects of erectile dysfunction (ED). What was once considered a “last resort,” is now a mainstream treatment option for men with ED with excellent outcomes.

This minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis in about one hour. Typically placed through a single incision, the penile implant is completely concealed inside of the penile shaft and scrotum for a natural look and feel when both flaccid and erect.

There are generally two types of penile implants: inflatable and semi-rigid. The inflatable implant is the most common and offers men many benefits. The two- and three-piece inflatable penile implant offers men a more natural erection than a semi-rigid implant. They are inflated using a pump when an erection is desired and then deflated easily and concealed in the penis. With a semi-rigid implant, the rod (implant) is always firm. The implant is used by bending the penis away from the body to create an erection and then bent back inward to conceal the penis.
